Playground Environment

Playgrounds are usually connected to childhood and growing up. It is a place for kids to play, so the playground is a good representation of youth. The playground illustrates childhood nostalgia and how we forget what we lose when we become adults through subject matter, colors, and atmosphere. This artwork is built by Clip Studio, Maya, Photoshop, Substance Painter, and Unreal Engine.

I used Maya to create each asset, but the ground is made directly in Unreal Engine. I created the spring rider and playground because it reminds me of my childhood and is a place of fun. Furthermore, I also chose the spring rider because I thought it could be used to travel back in time, like Back to the Future’s car.

I use Clip Studio, Photoshop, and Substance Painter for the texture maps, or in other words, coloring the environment and objects. I picked brown, red, yellow, and orange to demonstrate the nostalgia theme because these are the colors I think of when I think of nostalgia. I use red, yellow, and blue for the playground because real playground tends to use primary colors.

Additionally, I placed the assets and playground in the Unreal Engine while setting up the sky there, as well. I made the sky have a sunset because a sunset symbolizes the end of the day or arc, which cans to how nostalgia looking at the past ended life path. Overall, I hope you all can see the nostalgia in this environment or even something even more profound than I imagined. So, let yourself reflect, but don’t forget to keep going through life.
